Speak to a GP About Mental Health
Online mental health care at Clinic Online is compassionate, GP-led telehealth support for anxiety, depression, stress, burnout and sleep concerns — including Mental Health Care Plans for Medicare-rebated psychology sessions, medication reviews, and referrals to psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors where clinically appropriate.
One in five Australians experiences a mental health condition each year, and the common barriers — long GP wait times, transport, time off work, the discomfort of a waiting room — stop many people from reaching out at all. Telehealth removes those barriers.
You speak from your own space with an AHPRA-registered Australian GP who listens, asks the right questions, and helps you decide on the next step. That might be a Mental Health Care Plan, a psychology referral, a medication review, or simply a supportive conversation and a follow-up booked for next week. There is no pressure and no judgement — just care.
If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 000 or contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Telehealth is not a substitute for emergency care.
One flat consultation price. No subscriptions. Mental health consults often run longer — the second tier covers that without surprise fees.
Most straightforward GP consultations — prescriptions, medical certificates, single-issue advice and referrals.
Longer, more complex consultations — mental health reviews, multiple issues, chronic condition management or in-depth investigations.
Medicare: Medicare rebates may apply for eligible consultations — availability depends on your individual circumstances and current Commonwealth telehealth rules. Your GP will let you know during the consultation whether your consult is rebate-eligible.
No subscriptions. No form-based medicine. You only ever pay for the consultation you have — there's nothing to cancel and nothing recurring.
Telehealth GP mental health support is ideal for everyday mental health concerns and care planning. Some situations need urgent in-person or specialist care instead.

Clear answers about Mental Health Care Plans, psychology referrals, medications and Medicare.
Yes. A Mental Health Care Plan (formally called a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, or GPMHTP) can be prepared by an AHPRA-registered GP during a telehealth consultation. The plan entitles you to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions with an eligible psychologist, mental-health social worker or occupational therapist per calendar year. Your Clinic Online GP will complete the plan with you, discuss your goals, and issue a referral to the psychologist of your choice.
Yes, where clinically appropriate. Most common antidepressants (SSRIs such as sertraline, escitalopram, citalopram; SNRIs such as venlafaxine and duloxetine; and others such as mirtazapine) can be reviewed and prescribed via telehealth when it is safe to do so. Your GP will explore your history, discuss side effects and expectations, and arrange appropriate follow-up. Short-acting benzodiazepines and Schedule 8 medications generally require in-person assessment at first visit.
For many patients, yes. Research published in Australian and international journals has consistently shown that telehealth mental health consultations — for assessment, care planning, psychoeducation and most forms of talking therapy — produce outcomes comparable to in-person care. The privacy of speaking from home also helps many patients feel more comfortable opening up than they would in a clinic waiting room.
Yes — absolutely. Your consultation, your clinical notes and your mental health treatment plan are stored in a secure, Australian-hosted medical records system and protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Nothing is shared with your employer, family, insurance company or anyone else without your explicit written consent.
Yes. After discussing your situation, your Clinic Online GP can refer you to a psychologist (under a Mental Health Care Plan for Medicare rebates), a mental health accredited social worker, a clinical counsellor, or a psychiatrist for specialist assessment. The e-referral is emailed to you and can be forwarded to the provider of your choice.
If you are in immediate danger, thinking about ending your life, or experiencing a severe mental health crisis, please call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department. Lifeline (13 11 14), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), Suicide Call Back Service (1300 659 467), Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) and 13YARN (13 92 76) are all free 24/7 crisis lines staffed by trained counsellors. Telehealth is not an emergency service.
Medicare rebates for mental health telehealth consultations are available to many Australians under specific MBS item numbers, and the rules are updated periodically. Your Clinic Online GP will tell you during the consultation whether a rebate applies to you and, where eligible, will process the Medicare paperwork so the rebate flows back to your nominated bank account automatically.
Mental health consultations are typically 20 to 40 minutes — considerably longer than a standard consult for a script or certificate. Our pricing is tiered to reflect this: $45 for consultations up to 10 minutes, and $59 for those that run beyond. Your GP will take the time the conversation needs — there is no pressure to rush.
Mental health care is often delivered alongside anxiety and depression support, medication reviews and specialist referrals.
